Weekly Newsletter, November 11, 2019

Dear 1B Families,

This week we focused on author’s purpose in reading and writing. Authors write to persuade, inform, and entertain. We started our own writing using author’s purpose. The letters and sounds we focused on this week were short vowel sounds. We are continuing to identify fiction and nonfiction genres. In math, we finished our chapter on graphing- bar graphs, pictographs, and tally charts. We then did a unit review and next week we will move to unit 2 on addition and subtraction to 10. In science we are continuing to study plants, this week we talked about deciduous trees and evergreen trees.
Today, we attended an amazing Veteran’s Day Assembly led by the 6th grade students and we heard from guest speaker, Veteran Louie Siggins. Enjoy the day off on Monday, Happy Veteran’s Day!
Have a wonderful long weekend!

My name is Melissa Morrier-Turk, I am a graduate of SMM (class of 1986) and have been a member of the parish community much of my life. I have a B.S. in Business with an emphasis in Human Resources from Central Washington University and have spent my 23 years working in this field, traveling all over the USA and Canada as an HR Director, as well as a corporate trainer. My husband Mike and I have two kids, our son is in college and our daughter is a Junior at AMHS. In my off time I enjoy running, cycling, hiking, anything outdoorsy really. I have absolutely loved working with and getting to know so many of the families here at SMM and am looking forward to getting to know you all better as part of your school community!
