November 22, 2019

 Dear 1B Families,

This week we continued to focus on Thanksgiving and turkeys.  We read many turkey stories and worked on retelling.  We reviewed predicting and made predictions when reading.  In math we are finishing chapter 5 on addition and after thanksgiving we will move into subtraction.  In science we are continuing to study plants.  We will focus on evergreen trees and their seeds next week.  I am looking forward to meeting with everyone for conferences.  The first graders have worked hard this week to get ready for conferences and are excited to share their work.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving and great break!

My name is Melissa Morrier-Turk, I am a graduate of SMM (class of 1986) and have been a member of the parish community much of my life. I have a B.S. in Business with an emphasis in Human Resources from Central Washington University and have spent my 23 years working in this field, traveling all over the USA and Canada as an HR Director, as well as a corporate trainer. My husband Mike and I have two kids, our son will be a Junior at Archbishop Murphy High School and our daughter will be a 7th grader here at SMM. As a parent, I have been an active member of the SMM community, most recently wrapping up my role as the Parent Club President this year and V.P. last year. I have also been an active member of the auction for the past 8 years, along with numerous opportunities to volunteer in my children’s classrooms and through club activities. In my off time I enjoy running, cycling, hiking, anything outdoorsy really. I have absolutely loved working with and getting to know so many of the families here at SMM as a parent and am looking forward to getting to know you all better as part of your school community!
