Dear 1B Families,

This week we focused on letter writing skills.  The first graders are learning letters start with a heading and greeting, then the body of the letter and end with a closing and their signature.  We practiced this skill by writing letters to ourselves and mailed them.  Mrs. Olson showed us how the scale and mail stamp machine worked.  The first graders were very impressed.  We then sent the letters in the mail, so look for a letter this week and let us know what day the letter arrives.  We also have been reading stories about writing letters.  In math, we are working on patterns, symmetry, and odd and even numbers.  We will finish this unit soon and move into fractions.  In science, we started a new unit on animals and their habitats; we are zoologists.  In religion, we are focusing on Lent and following in the footsteps of Jesus.  The students will start attending Stations of the Cross every Friday at 2:15 during Lent, this is a way help us become closer to God and be prayerful and reflective during this Lent season.
