Weekly Newsletter, March 30, 2020

Dear 1B Families,

First, I want to thank you for all your support and work with your children during this new learning adventure.  I am continually impressed by your support and your student’s work.  Next, we will continue to have weekly zoom meetings on Tuesdays at 10:30am.  Finally, I am trying to make google classroom easy to use and the daily schedule and directions easy to follow.  When the students login to google the stream is the first thing they can see and it can be messy and confusing.  I recommend using the classwork tab because things are more organized and easier to follow.

Important information:

  • Math: This week we will finish time/ clocks.  I know this can be a challenging topic in math, please know you are doing great working with your child on time.  There are new mathletics activities posted on time to work on for extra practice.  On Thursday, they will take the chapter test.  Please take a picture of the test when it is completed and upload it to google classroom or email it to me so I can see their math progress.  Next week, we will start money.  To help with this I encourage you to have your child work with coins for enrichment.  Thank you
  • Writing:  This week in writing the students get to write their own animal story.  There is a drafting guide due on Monday.  On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday please have your child write their story.  They can use the paper in their packet or type the story in the google doc.  The story should be completed and submitted on Thursday either in the google doc or by taking a picture and uploading it in google classroom or through email.
  • Science: On Monday 3/30 you will see the lesson review study guides attached in google classroom.  Please use these study guides with your children each day to prepare for the zoologist test on Friday.  If you are unable to print the reviews it is fine, just study each day.  On Friday, 4/3, we will take the science test in google classroom, there will be a form to complete online.
  • Grading Procedure: I am giving students grades in Google Classroom based on completion.  Please note that these grades are just to show completion, i.e. if your child has turned everything in for the day he/she will have 100%.  However, if there are things your child needs to work on or work that is not complete I will type these in the comments.  The student can then resubmit the assignment.  If you have questions about this please let me know.  I am looking for effort and participation allows me to measure their progress.

Again thank you so much for all your help and support, we are in this together, so please reach out if you need anything or have any questions! 😊

Thank you and God Bless,

Mrs. Heidi Harris
